Doing it yourself with MirrorSEAL

Some people prefer to do a job themselves if they possibly can. That way they know how well the job was done and what materials were used. For others the cost savings are important. Personally I enjoy being constructive but the other advantages are not forgotten.

The MirrorSEAL system is ideal for "Do It Yourself" types like me. It is suitable for both new flat and low pitch roofs, for re-roofing or patching a roof with a problem.

First and foremost, both the materials and the finished product are safe to work with and use. Even the rainwater will be cleaner. This may be very important if you plan to use the rainwater to water your vegetable garden.

Secondly, some skill in measuring and cutting is important and you should be able to pay attention to details but you don't need to be a PRO.

Thirdly, you don't need any special tools.

Please don't be put off when I say it is similar to working with Fiberglas reinforced plastic. It is nothing like working with FRP but it is similar in that it is a laminate of the Penetrating Base, MirrorFAB and Top Coat. The Penetrating Base is more like latex paint; it does not have to be catalyzed in order to cure and is easily cleaned up with water. The MirrorFAB reinforcing cloth will take a tighter radius than Fiberglas cloth without lifting. The Top Coat is also like latex paint and is applied with a paint roller. MirrorSEAL will expand and contract with the roof, it will remain resilient and it will not crack.

Provided you have the basic skills necessary (see directions), that you are careful to make sure the weather is suitable (good drying weather while the job is underway) you should enjoy the project.

There are two other things to be concerned about-

  1. Take all appropriate safety precautions when working at height.

  2. MirrorSEAL is an impermeable barrier, while it will contain standing water indefinitely it is not, in it's self, a structural component of a roofing system. The structure underneath the MirrorSeal must be sound prior to applying the MirrorSEAL.

Send a photo of your roof along with the area and we will be glad to quote the materials needed.

When installed appropriately, MirrorSEAL simply does not fail!
